Evaluation Q4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout my A2 course i have used a variety of new media technologies to present my research and planning, construction and my evaluation. When we first started doing research into different media theorists and genre's codes and convention i analysed existing music videos and then embedded my analysis and the video onto my blog. We also did a vox pox's session in which we recorded various different people on a digital camera answering questions to do with our music video and then edited them on adobe premier and uploaded it to the media streaming sight Youtube so it was able to be embedded into our blog.

We then started to do research into a unsigned artist and track and got peer assessments on the potential tracks by streaming the track through unsignedartist.com We also used slide share in order to create a sideshow presentation and upload it onto our blogs to show the analysis of our music lyrics.

We then took a digital camcorder and tripod to record original footage in order to import it into the dtp video editing programme Adobe premier. Through adobe premier we were able to create a realistic looking music video using such tools as the razor to cut out the clips we did want from the ones we didn't. It also had a variety of shot transitions and effects to help create a original professional piece of work. We used transitions such as the push transition and clock wipe in order to help us achieve a comic effect. we then used the tools such a text tool in order to create the funny saying's our performers are thinking, as well as having it as the text beside our sound editing clips. We used a green screen to record our performer lipsycing in order to have a authentic performance piece.

Using the green screen is a professional technique seen in many movies and music videos in order to have different backgrounds behind their performer or scene. We then rendered our video once editing was complete and uploaded the avi format file to youtube in order to embedded our video on the blog as well as publicly broadcasting our finish product.

In the evaluation stages i used all the information i have uploaded onto my blog in order to reflect over the whole production process. I took screen captured of various different existing videos as well as my own in order to draw clear comparisons and reflect on how successful my production was.

Evaluation Q3

What have you learned from your audience feedback.

After having a audience review our 1st draft of our music video we learnt that in the chorus instead of having angry images behind our singer we should possibly have more narrative of her bad day. With the influence of the original artist we have decided to replace the angry pictures with ones of her falling down, things spilling on her , her walking into doors, tights ripping and various bad situations that are common in everyday life.

we also got told that we should try and include more visual slap stick and possibly re look at filming our tricaster scenes again as some of the lip sync was out of time. We also got suggested that we should try and use different angles in the office shots so we are looking into ways we can change that.

However on the positive side, we achieved our target of making the audience laugh and the narrative scenes with the speech bubbles worked well, they thought we used a variety of shots aswell as havign accurate and engaging lipsyncing with a original concept. with these suggestions in mind we started to work on the final touches of our music video and decdied to put the changes into practice by changing the angry images to ones of our performer having a bad day and captioning them.

Evaluation Q2

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts

When creating our ancillary tasks we created a brand identity for our performer as we used a consistent colour scheme of pink and blue which is seen in our music video as well as on the magazine advert and CD covers. The pink we used also considered with the colour of our artists watch which is also seen in our video and ancillary tasks, making it unique to our artist. We also had a constant use of the same font in our advert and CD covers which also plays a part in our performers brand identity.

Here is examples of our work and how it created a brand identity.

When beginning to create our ancillary tasks we looked into various existing products by artists of a similar genre such as lady gaga and Katty Perry. By looking into existing products we were able to see what codes and conventions we should adhere to in order to create a realistic looking product. Katty perry's album uses a lot of bright colours which is often linked with the pop genre

and in essence we used this feature by selecting shades of electric pink and blue in order for them to stand out and be quirky like the genre of our music video which different to the pastel colours usually seen on pop album covers. By subverting the codes and conventions we are adding our own original flare to the tasks in order to make it have visually appealing aesthetics so that people would want to look at it and buy it. An example of Katty Perry and Lady Gaga's album covers are

When in comparison to ours, Katy perry's is a lot more female and that is the brand identity she has created in all her covers where as Lady Gaga's is more dark and edgy similar to her music videos; where as ours looks more quirky and electrifying, which also links in with our music video. When creating the front cover we stuck to using the conventions of just having a single picture of the artist as well as having the title of the album in bright bold lettering so it stands out. When designing the back cover we took into consideration all the conventions of having the track titles listed to one side similar to most conventional CD covers as well as including institutional information that we created to give the cover an authentic look such as creating the artists website address and a copyright label.

Here is our back cover along with one of Katty perry's

Both covers went for a simplicstic style however her institutional information is a lot smaller then ours. However I think that we have created authentic products to assist our music video well by having influence form existing examples as a starting point.

Evaluation no 1

My music video is of a very unique and quirky pop genre that isn't seen in the music charts now days, helping make or ideas to subvert the conventions of mainstream music videos.

Our music video begins with using homage of early 40's/50's movies with the cursive writing to set the introduction to our video.which is often seen in the titles and credits like in ours. We chose to use the colour red which is considered to be a very pop and quirky colour; in addition it appeals to a universal audience. we originally planned to use a bright florescent pink, however after receiving constructive feedback from outside opinions we decided to change the colour as pink suggested it would be more targeted at girls and so male viewers would switch over when seeing it on a music channel. we used Tricaster footage of our artist lip syncing the song lyrics which is a stereotypical feature of a music video.,it has a flow through narrative that is also a stereotypical feature of most concept or narrative based music videos.

we developed conventions of using tricaster in the music video by having our tricaster footage overlap the narrative shots as well as having text come up beside the performer as she sings
We challeneged conventions by doing something alternative and using images behind the artist whilst she lipsyncs aswell as having the artist singing ontop of the narrative. we also used thought bubbles duringthe narrative shots to show their thoughts rather then letting the audience judge fromthe scene itself adding a comedical element. We used a every day girl that everyone could relate to instead of having our artist over the top and flashy like a typical celebrity.

Our video and music style is very unique and in esscence to create a humourous different video we paid a hommage to emeniems lose control music video as he is a very unique artist and his videos are very outrageous. For example we used the push transition that is often seen in sitcoms create humour and in both videos this is evidently seen.

We also used thought bubbles to portray funny messages for our narrative characters to be thinking as seen in reference to the video.

We used images behind our performer when lipsyncing to join in with the narrative similaly like Eminems.

We also used text at the side of our performer however we used words from the actual lyrics in order to show their importance.

3oh3ft Ke$ha - My first kiss

As evident in our music video we also had lipsyncing ontop of our narrative scenes with is rare to see in music videos . 3oh3 have a similar quirky genre aswell , so it suited our music video.
